Triplex Stealth Kicking Tees By Champion

Last weekend, I had a chance to kick with a tee that I’ve never used before.  You might have heard of the ‘Triplex’ kicking tee, though some kickers refer to it as the GREEN KICKING TEE.

Triplex Kicking TeeI first saw this tee while watching a college football game….a green kicking tee?  A few months later we were talking with Georgia Tech’s Harrison Butker mentioned HE was using it.  So, what is this kicking tee that looks like a gem you might dig out of the ground and wash off for the nearest jewelry store?  Why are more and more people starting to use it?

I decided to try it out for myself recently and I must admit, I liked the way it felt and the way it held the football personally.

A big thing that I noticed as well was that it was very LIGHTWEIGHT.  Unlike the heavier black Ground Zero kicking tees we are used to, it had the same basic shape, but with style.

Football Kicking Holder: ColossusThe way the ball sits in the tee, it really doesn’t touch the surface, so there is very little resistance when the ball is kicked from the tee.  With that said, the indented part of the tee that actually holds the football (the ‘mouth with teeth’) really seemed to hold the ball as securely as the Ground Zero if not better.  It seemed to sit a bit higher and give me flexibility with the exact lean I wanted on the ball.

I asked the kicker I was working with at the time and he said the school just ‘had this one in the bag.’  However, he said that he’d been using it and that he really liked it….to the point of preferring it now.

Not only does it hold the ball for full kickoffs, but it it has the onside ‘notch’ on the backside, which is great because it seems to be a standard with this tee.  Some of the black Ground Zero models and black knock offs don’t always have the notch I’ve noticed.

I also like that the color is nice and bright!  It’s easy to see in a kicking bag and stands out during a game when an equipment manager is trying to find it after your extra point attempt.

I remember equipment folks throwing me my kicking tee in high school….of course, we all used the red sidewinder tees before the black Ground Zeros.  However, when the heavier Ground Zero tees came along it was not so easy to chunk the thing from the sideline!

Indeed, this Triplex kicking tee by Champion is very lightweight yet sturdy.  I could see my relay team tossing this easily to me (if needed) so I would probably consider kicking with this green machine if I were back in high school today!

With that said, I still have a bag full of Ground Zeros that won’t go away anytime soon, but if you are looking for a new kick off tee to play with, I would highly recommend the Green Triplex kicking tee, I really enjoyed kicking with it!
