FGK TEAM PRACTICE COACHING

Who’s coaching your kicker during practice each week?

For many high school kickers and punters, the answer is no one.

They practice with the team, but after team stretch they’re often told to “go kick” on their own. FGK Team Practice Coaching brings Coach Scott to approved team practices throughout the season to fill that gap.

BETTER FRIDAY NIGHTS ARE BUILT DURING THE WEEK

He doesn’t have to figure it out alone.

He has someone there who’s paying attention. I watch the team reps, the operation, his warm-up and his mechanics. I see what happens when the snap is bad, the hold is late, the timing gets rushed or a few kicks start going the wrong direction.

Then we work on what practice reveals, right there, while it’s fresh and in the environment where he has to perform.

And I keep coming back. Whether that’s weekly or a couple of times each month, your kicker or punter has someone who knows his game, knows his coaches, knows what we’ve been working on and can help keep him moving forward throughout the season.

Coach Scott

More useful repetitions

The athlete gets feedback while the actual routine, timing, operation and field conditions are happening, not days later at a separate lesson.

Clearer understanding

I teach athletes why a movement or adjustment works so they can begin recognizing and correcting patterns themselves.

Confident preparation

Confidence is built through preparation…not promises. The goal is a repeatable process the athlete can trust when Friday night arrives.

Practice is different from a private lesson. That’s the point.

Private lessons give us dedicated time to develop and refine technique. Team practice shows us whether the athlete can apply it when the conditions aren’t controlled…the actual snap and hold, limited repetitions, team timing, weather and the pressures of game-week preparation.

Team Practice Coaching connects the two. I can see what’s happening in his real football environment and help him apply what we’ve worked on when it actually matters.

I’m there to support the team’s coaching staff, not replace it. I work within the team’s practice structure and provide specialist coaching where it’s needed.

How Team Practice Coaching Works

Experienced coaching, explained clearly.

As a former college and professional kicker who has coached hundreds of developing and advanced specialists since 2013, my approach is fundamentals-first. I observe the movement, explain why the result occurred, and help the athlete build a pattern that can become repeatable and increasingly self-directed.

FGK Team Practice Coaching grew naturally out of my work as a private kicking coach. It’s the result of years of real on-campus coaching experience at local programs and direct requests from families who needed specialist help during the season but could not easily add another separate lesson to the week.

The service can support developing athletes and accomplished varsity specialists. The focus is steady development, not quick fixes or guaranteed results.

Coach Scott - Field Goal Session

Sometimes the most valuable part is having someone to ask.

Not every problem fits neatly into a drill. Kickers and punters run into situations throughout the season that are difficult to solve on their own. For instance…an unusual hold, a rushed warm-up, conflicting technical advice, a new responsibility, or something that happened Friday night.

Part of my job is being there when he needs to talk it through. Your athlete has an experienced specialist who understands what he’s trying to do, knows what we’ve been working on, and can help him decide what to do next.

What we work on depends on the athlete’s role, what his team is doing that day, and what practice reveals. That may include:

  • Warm-up and game-week preparation
  • Field goals, PATs and live-hold performance

  • Bad snap and hold adjustments, learning to make the ugly kick

  • Timing and communication with the specialist unit

  • Kickoffs…deep, directional, squib and onside situations

  • Punting and team-specific specialist responsibilities

  • Movement, ball flight and self-correction

  • Confidence, composure and mental preparation

Choose the format that fits your school’s specialists.

Every visit reserves a 90-minute campus coaching window. Depending on the team’s practice schedule, that time may include observing team periods, working individually with the athlete, or both.

Private coaching for one athlete

The simplest option for one kicker or punter. Book once or make it part of the season.

A single visit is always welcome. Many athletes benefit from having me return weekly or every other week so I can follow what’s happening in practice, build on previous work and help address new challenges as the season develops.

Team Practice Punter Coaching

FGK works with the coaching staff, not around it.

FGK follows the team’s practice plan, provides coaching during the opportunities available inside the scheduled window, and respects the staff’s authority and priorities.

The goal is to strengthen the specialist without disrupting team operations.

Scott is very knowledgeable, and he has a tremendous ability to break down mechanics and find ways to make improvements.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The parent or organizer is responsible for obtaining approval from the head coach or appropriate school representative before booking. FGK does not normally contact the school to request initial permission.

It reserves 90 minutes of Scott’s coaching presence within team practice. The window may include observation, specialist instruction, team transitions, and live field-goal, PAT, kickoff, or punting periods as the team’s practice schedule allows.

After booking, FGK confirms a direct coach or staff contact, the exact arrival location, the visit window, and how specialist work will fit into the team’s practice schedule. Once school approval is in place, Scott may coordinate these logistics directly with the designated contact.

No. Private lessons develop and refine mechanics. Team Practice Coaching helps athletes apply those mechanics inside their actual football environment. Scott works within the school’s practice structure and does not replace the school’s coaching staff or direct its coaches.

When conditions are questionable, Scott reviews the situation with the booking parent before travel, and the parent can decide whether to proceed or request a reschedule. Severe weather, lightning, and school decisions still control field availability. If the parent requests a weather-related reschedule, the payment remains as a credit toward the new date.

Practice schedules and weather can change quickly during the season. If weather may affect the field, footing, or practice schedule, parents should communicate with FGK as early as possible, ideally before Scott begins traveling to the school. When conditions are questionable, FGK and the parent can decide whether it makes sense to proceed or apply the payment to a rescheduled visit.

It is better to reschedule early and discover later that conditions improved than to wait until Scott is already traveling to the school. When in doubt, an early reschedule is better than a last-minute cancellation after travel has begun.

FGK understands that schedules change, athletes get sick, and unexpected conflicts come up. Whenever possible, families should provide as much notice as they can. Cancellations made before Scott has begun traveling to the school can generally be rescheduled with full credit. Once travel to the scheduled visit has begun, however, the payment may be forfeited. No-shows forfeit payment. If FGK cancels, the family may choose a full credit or refund.

Semi-Private visits serve two athletes. Specialist Groups serve three or more. One parent/organizer coordinates the roster and pays for the full appointment after FGK confirms the school, specialist roles, and practice window.

Families can settle their individual shares separately (Venmo, etc).

Submit the location-review inquiry below. Schools outside the current Zone 1 and Zone 2 lists may still be available for Team Practice Coaching.

FGK will review the location, travel requirements, and coaching opportunity and follow up with available options and pricing.
