How To Kick a Football Off a Tee
Many kickers begin playing soccer, then attending kicking camps, kicking field goals and soon realize they need to learn how to kick a football off a tee for kick offs.
Kicking a field goal off a tee can be a huge advantage during high school and junior high.
I remember very clearly making the change from a 2” field goal tee to a 1”, and then kicking off the ground.
WOW! What a difference a field goal tee can make, so take advantage while you can.
You will see throughout our blogs that I will relate kicking and golf many times over, and this is one of those times. In this case, think of kicking a football off a tee like hitting a driver in golf.
How To Kick a Football Off a Tee The Easy Way
The first thing I do when I step on to the tee box at the golf course is set up my ball on the tee.
Similarly when kicking, I picked the field goal tee that I felt gave me the best chance to succeed. I used a 2” field goal tee for most of high school to get maximum height and distance.
After I get the ball set up on the tee box, I get the appropriate distance from the ball and take my stance. When I kick a football off a tee, I make sure my plant foot is the correct distance from the ball and that my foot is not too far forward or too far back.
At contact my plant foot is about shoulder width from the ball and the middle of my arch is even with the ball for a 2” tee and even with my ankle for a 1” tee.
Then I swing my driver and watch my ball go really high and far…right into the woods.
Ugh! Looks like I need to watch the accuracy videos on here and translate it into golf. Not to mention I need to get out on the course and practice more than a few times a year to be able to do anything consistently.
So remember when learning how to kick a football off a tee, you need to practice routinely and over time kicking will feel natural.
