Often times, new students or student parents will ask me what format I recommend to begin training together. That might be a single lesson, but most often we end up setting a regular schedule to refine various components of a student’s swing over a period of time.
When I work with kicking students, it’s generally in one of two basic settings. Those are private lessons, and group lessons.
Private sessions are one-on-one lessons that are offered in both 60 and 90 minute sessions. It’s one coach (me), one student, and one or more goals set to accomplish for that session.
With a private lesson, a student has the full attention of the coach for the time period selected. This means that the session is much more engaging and every question can be answered immediately.
I would ALWAYS recommend at least ONE private lesson BEFORE a student jumps into a scheduled group lesson. This is simply to ensure that the student’s ability is comparable to the peer group selected for a group session.
Private sessions are fantastic not only for beginners who are learning the fundamentals, but also for students with more experience who need a second pair of eyes to help troubleshoot an ongoing issue.
For instance, experienced kickers often struggle with plant foot position changes while transitioning through lower and lower kicking block heights until they reach the ground.
