Video Based Learning

Tennis Video InstructionMy son was a junior tournament tennis player.  To those of you who may not be familiar with competitive tennis, this just means that he was very serious about the sport and put LOTS of time into it.  As his parents, so did we!

We provided as much as we could in the way of learning and experience based opportunities as we could though the years to help him achieve his potential.  That included private lessons, group sessions and of course, weekly academy drills to keep him drilling with some of the best players in the local area.

When he was just getting started, there was lots of ‘parent instruction’ time with him.  That is, time there was a quick minute when my tennis advice was actually useful for him during his early career.  That didn’t last long.

I consider myself a good player, but I’m certainly no pro.  So, when my son reached an age when tennis was no longer about hitting the ball, but more about ‘how’ to hit the ball for maximum leverage and detailed match strategy, I threw my hands up….someone help my kid learn this stuff!

I’m just not qualified to ‘coach’ my son because I was never ‘there’ with the sport, even though I love to play myself today. I never played in high school or college, never was coached the fundamentals at that prime age.  About this time of ‘what do I do now?’ I heard about a former tennis pro from my tennis nut father.  This guy, used the internet to teach both strategy and tennis fundamentals.  It was an inexpensive way to immediately have access to a hundreds of hours of video….an instant library of organized reminders and pointers by topic, that sort of thing.

Football Kicking Holder: ColossusOf course, we wouldn’t remember much on the first pass, but we would watch these things over and over as needed, being exposed to the same one on one fundamentals tough by this former tennis pro in person.

The videos are all tied together in a way that allows people to watch and learn at their pace, review a topic as many times as they need, then head to the courts with the techniques freshly burned into the short term memory.

I decided to try his website just to see what the video lesson experience might be like.  One of his offerings was a technical review of the serve….never had that exposure so I decided to try it out.

As advertised, by the time we finished with the first lesson on serving fundamentals, which was only a few minutes long, I felt like I had been standing on the court with him for a personal, private lesson.

I also know now that although I’m ‘decent’ at serving, I’m doing it all wrong.  I’m exited to take this guy with me to the court and review the lesson from my iPad WHILE I’m trying it on the court.  Next best thing to a private lesson with him, but at a fraction of the cost.

Video Topic PageThe thing about this whole video training concept is that it’s the EXACT approach I wanted to take with teaching members on fieldgoalkicker.com.

Watching these tennis lessons and using them myself as a client, makes me realize the true potential of what we have started, but it’s going to take some time for OUR target market to understand the power of this teaching technique over time.

Video-based training on the fundamentals of kicking really can open the door to professional instruction for a FRACTION of the cost of private lessons or if .  If a member attends live clinics and then uses the video training at home to reinforce what we focused on at the clinic, even better!

However, our system was developed to teach kickers we may not ever meet in person.  It was developed so that those kickers could develop a relationship with us, and with peers, in a membership environment…..call it a kicking ‘team’ if you will, but that is the idea.  Want to see a concept from a different angle?  Just tell us and we’ll get the video out to both you and other members.  Collective growth training….

Any questions how it all works?  Just click over and check it out.  For existing FGK Members we have new content coming as I type this!

Happy kicking!
